The inverse problem in porous medium. Determination of permeability and filtration functions in deep bed filtration model..
Abstract:
Models for deep bed filtration during the injection of produced or sea water with solid inclusions depend on an empirical filtration function that represents the rate of particle retention as a function of deposition. This function cannot be measured directly, but must be recovered from the measurements of injected and effluent particle concentrations. The inverse problem of determining the filtration function from the effluent and injected particle concentration histories reduces to solving a functional equation derived from an invariant along characteristic lines. It was solved based on several assumptions that conform to the model. In this work, we study conditions for relaxing such assumptions about the input data. In this new way the restriction imposed on the filtration function is obtained as a necessary condition. Moreover, we prove several useful properties for the solution of the inverse problem of obtaining the filtration function of a porous medium from experimental measurements of other quantities. The results are based on properties of a functional equation derived from the model equations.

Abstract:
Cet exposé ouvert à un large public se veut une introduction à certaines problématiques de théorie des graphes. Dans un premier temps, nous donnerons quelques exemples d’utilisation du problème de la coloration d’un graphe, puis nous introduirons la coloration orientée au moyen d’une analogie des morphismes de graphes. Nous nous intéresserons alors à la complexité de ces problèmes, puis à leurs approximations en discutant de deux approches différentes approches possibles.

Abstract:
As known from linear algebra,the distance from a nonsingular matrix A to the set of singular matrices is equal tothe reciprocal of the norm of the inverse of A. The standard condition number of a matrix is then just the normalized reciprocal to the distance to singularity. This result is sometimes called the Eckart-Young theorem but the actual paper by Eckart and Young from 1936 is only indirectly related to the issue. In this talk we will take a quick tour through basic ideas that lead to expressions for the distances to irregularity of mappings. Then we outline generalizations in various directions and pose some open problems [Based on joint works with A. S. Lewis and R. T. Rockafellar].
